Park football rolls to 3-1 record

Park High School's football team silenced another Suburban East Conference team, defeating White Bear Lake 34-10 last Friday in Cottage Grove.

The Wolfpack is 3-1 on the season and clings to the league's third-place honors, as only two conference teams -- second-state ranked Cretin-Derham Hall and No. 10 Mounds View -- retain unblemished league records.

"We've got a long ways to go yet, but we're getting there," said Park coach Doug Ekmark.

The Wolfpack pulled ahead with a 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, as quarterback R. C. Kilgore scored a 23-yard touchdown run and contributed to a 16-yard run TD in the second quarter.

Tyler Kennedy helped Park take a 21-0 halftime lead after scoring on a 31 TD run. Kennedy added a 6-yard TD in the third quarter before White Bear Lake's Pete Nasvik scored on a 6-yard run to give the Bears a touchdown.

Nasvik gave White Bear Lake three more points on a field goal in the fourth quarter before Park's Cole Allery sealed the Wolfpack's 24-point victory on a 22-yard reception from Kilgore.

Park put out 371 offensive yards compared to White Bear Lake's 244, and all of the Bears' yards came on the ground, as they were unable to complete any of their three attempted passes.

"They tried to run the football, that's what they do," Ekmark said. "They don't try to throw the ball. They try to run the ball at you, and they did, but they couldn't make enough plays and our offense was excellent."

Two members of the 'Pack recorded over 100 yards rushing last Friday. Kilgore finished the night with 119 yards rushing on 8 attempts, while senior Wolfpack running back Nick Alverson recorded 103 yards on 16 attempts. Kennedy had 77 yards on 11 attempts.

Kilgore finished the night with 68 passing yards, completing four of his five passes. Justin Zarich caught two of those passes for 17 yards.

"R.C. had a great game; both running backs had big nights," Ekmark said. "We had over 300 yards rushing. The offensive line played extremely well. Tremendous effort and hustle out of our defense."
