UPDATE: McDonald's closing over summer for reconstruction
COTTAGE GROVE — Cottage Grove will be spending its summer without a McDonald's.
It was announced at the Feb. 26 planning commission meeting that from late May through the end of summer, the company will be working quickly to demolish and reconstruct the building.
"A quite aggressive schedule, but the site will be closed," Planner John Burbank said.
The McDonald's at 7355 East Point Douglas Road, originally built in 1973, has gone mostly un-updated over the years, other than when a second drive-thru lane was added in 2004.
"It's been an existing building here for a quite some time, and it's going through a much-needed redevelopment," said Landform Professional Services' Sean Murphy, who attended the meeting on behalf of McDonald's.
The new site will cut down on available parking, moving from 74 to 51 spots in the lot. The location focuses more on drive-thru customers, which make up nearly 75 percent of sales.
